FAQ | 7-Day Sailing Course in Croatia

I have never sailed before. Is this course for me?

Absolutely. Our Beginner Course is designed for those with zero experience. We focus on building a solid foundation, from basic knots and sail trim to safety procedures and boat handling, all at a pace that ensures you feel confident and safe on the water.

I already have a license but haven't sailed in a while. Can I join?

Yes, we offer specialized Refresher Training for advanced students and license holders. If you feel "rusty" or want to practice specific maneuvers like docking in tight marinas, Mediterranean mooring, or night navigation, we tailor the drills to your specific needs to restore your full command of the vessel.

Do I have to share a cabin with a stranger?

No. At Sailing Munich, we value your privacy. Unlike most sailing schools, we provide Single Occupancy in private cabins as our standard. You will have your own private space to rest. Double cabins are only used if you are traveling with a partner or a friend.

How many students are on the boat?

We keep our groups small to guarantee high-quality instruction. We typically sail with 3 to 4 students per boat. This ensures that everyone gets maximum "tiller time" and personalized attention from the instructor, whether you are learning the basics or refining advanced skills.

Is the IYT certification mandatory?

No, certifications are optional. Many of our students join to gain real experience and confidence without the need for a certificate. However, if you wish to obtain an international IYT certification (from Competent Crew to Yachtmaster), we can conduct the necessary practical and theoretical assessments during the week.

What is the daily routine like?

We strike a balance between intensive learning and enjoying the Adriatic. A typical day starts with a weather briefing and maneuvers practice, followed by a few hours of sailing to a new destination. We usually anchor in secluded bays for lunch and spend the nights in local marinas or charming harbors, exploring the best of Croatia.

What happens if the weather doesn't cooperate?

Safety is our absolute priority. If conditions are too rough for training, we use the time for in-depth theory, technical systems walkthroughs, or navigation planning. We turn every weather situation into a learning opportunity, ensuring you know how to handle different conditions safely.

Where and when is the meeting point?

We meet every Saturday at 4 pm at D-Marin Dalmacija in Sukošan, near Zadar. Our specific meeting spot is near Pier 01, close to the Marina Gas Station. This marina is the largest on the Croatian coast and offers top-tier facilities, including supermarkets and restaurants.

What should I pack for the week?

Please bring flexible travel bags as they are easier to store on the yacht than hard suitcases. We recommend comfortable casual clothing, swimwear, and a hat. Even in summer, a waterproof warm jacket is essential for protection against wind or sudden rain. For footwear, bring boat shoes or go barefoot on board, plus water shoes for the shore. Do not forget your own towel, as we provide bed linen but not towels.

What is included in the course price?

Unlike most sailing schools, we offer an all-inclusive technical package. Your fee covers 7 nights of accommodation in a private cabin, professional instruction, all marina and berthing fees, fuel, final cleaning, and tourist taxes. We also provide breakfast and lunch on board, so you don’t have to worry about shared kitty expenses or hidden costs.

How do we handle meals?

We provide a variety of high-quality ingredients for breakfast and lunch, which are prepared and enjoyed together on the yacht. For dinner, we usually head ashore to experience the best local restaurants and authentic Croatian cuisine. Please note that dinner at restaurants and any personal alcoholic beverages are the only expenses not included in the course price.

Are there any hidden fees or "Board Cash" requirements?

No. We believe in transparency and focus. We do not use "Splitwise" or "Board Cash" for yacht expenses. Everything related to the boat, from the Gennaker use to the final drop of fuel, is already covered. This allows you to focus 100% on your training and the sailing experience.

Is there a health requirement to join?

Sailing requires a basic level of fitness. You should be able to climb steep stairs and handle thresholds of about 60 centimeters when moving between the yacht and the dinghy. We prioritize safety and will provide a comprehensive safety briefing covering life jackets, radio use, and emergency protocols before we leave the dock.

How many miles will we sail?

During our 7-day course, we typically average around 200 nautical miles. This is an ideal distance to build your logbook, which we highly recommend maintaining as proof of your experience for future certifications or boat charters.
