Handling a cruising catamaran requires you to adapt the techniques you use on a monohull.
This course focuses on twin-engine manoeuvring, the effects of windage and planning approaches for a wider vessel.
Through supervised practice, you will learn to coordinate the engines, judge clearances and organise your crew for docking, departure and anchoring.
Multihull Curriculum
TWIN ENGINES & SYSTEM MANAGEMENT
✓ Twin-Engine Maneuvering: Mastering the art of rotating 360° on the spot, walking sideways, and holding station in crosswinds using only the throttles (no wheel).

✓ Docking Wide Vessels: Stern-to docking (Med mooring) with a wide beam, handling "box maneuvering", and safe departure strategies between other boats.

✓ Anchoring & Bridle: Correct usage of the bridle (snubber) to reduce swing, and specific anchoring techniques for lighter displacement vessels.

✓ Sailing Geometry: Understanding apparent wind limits (since the boat doesn't heel to warn you), reefing protocols, and trimming for heavy displacement.

✓ Systems & Maintenance: Managing complex onboard systems typical of large cats (watermakers, generators, multiple heads) and troubleshooting common failures.

Catamarans are undeniably the kings of the charter market, offering unmatched space and comfort. However, their sheer beam and significant windage can make them incredibly intimidating to handle in tight marina confines. Our mission during this week is to completely demystify these impressive vessels, turning anxiety into mastery.
We focus heavily on the unique advantage of the catamaran: twin-engine maneuvering. You will spend hours practicing docking and close-quarters handling in various wind conditions, learning to use differential thrust to turn the boat within its own length. We drill until controlling the two engines feels like an intuitive extension of your hands. Beyond the helm, we also simulate the full lifestyle—managing systems, hosting, and navigating on a stable platform—ensuring you are fully prepared to skipper your friends and family safely on your next dream charter vacation.

The Outcome
Build a practical understanding of how a cruising catamaran responds to engine inputs,

and anchoring situations under supervision.
The aim is to improve your judgement and handling skills for future catamaran sailing.

FAQ | Catamaran Training
Do I need any previous experience to join the Catamaran Training?
Yes. This course is designed for sailors with previous monohull experience who want to transition to a catamaran. You should understand basic sailing, docking and safety procedures. We focus on twin-engine manoeuvring, windage, anchoring, mooring and catamaran-specific handling.

What are the sailing conditions like during the course?
We prioritize your comfort and learning. We sail during daylight hours and only in favorable weather conditions. The waters around Sukošan and the Zadar archipelago are generally calm, providing the perfect environment for beginners to learn without the stress of heavy seas or extreme winds.
​​​​What is included in the Standard Course price??
Your base fee covers the core essentials of your training: your cabin aboard a modern yacht, professional offshore instruction, and all safety equipment. Because this package focuses on the real-world logistics of running a vessel, the crew handles the daily variable costs directly. Expenses such as supermarket provisions, diesel, marina berths, and local taxes are shared equally. To keep financial management simple and completely transparent, the crew uses the Splitwise app. Every shared expense is logged into the application, automatically tracking and dividing the daily costs among all students without any hassle.
How are meals organised?
The crew buys groceries and prepares meals together on board. Grocery costs are shared separately from the course fee.
Meals ashore and personal drinks are paid individually.

​Where exactly do we meet to start?
The course starts and ends at D-Marin Dalmacija in Sukošan, just a short distance from Zadar Airport. Before your trip, you will receive a detailed arrival guide with a map of the marina, the exact pier location, and tips on the best taxi or bus options to reach us safely.

Will I have to share a cabin?
No. At Sailing Munich, we provide Single Occupancy in a private cabin as our standard to ensure you have the privacy and rest you need.
Double cabins are only used if you are traveling with a partner or a friend.
